Private dictation for Mac

Speak freely.
It stays with you.

FnScribe turns your voice into text entirely on your Mac. No account, no cloud transcription, and no archive of what you said.

Private by design

From your voice to your cursor.
Nowhere else.

Your words take a simple, local path. FnScribe does not need to know who you are—or send your voice to a server—to help you write.

01

Speech recognition stays on your hardware.

A bundled Whisper model processes speech directly on your Mac. Your recording is not uploaded for transcription.

02

There is no transcript archive.

Audio and recovery text live in memory, not a notes database. Recovery text disappears when FnScribe quits.

03

No identity. No analytics.

There is no sign-in, advertising SDK, cloud speech service, or usage tracker quietly watching in the background.

04

Your clipboard comes back.

For broad compatibility, FnScribe briefly uses a concealed clipboard entry and restores your prior contents when safe.

One gentle shortcut

Keep your hands—and your thoughts—moving.

  1. 1

    Place your cursor

Start in the text field where your words should appear.

  2. 2

    Hold fn and speak

Or press fn + Space when you want hands-free dictation.

  3. 3

    Release to write

FnScribe transcribes locally and inserts the result at your cursor.

Quietly useful

The small details that make dictation feel natural.

Write across your Mac

Use one familiar shortcut in native apps, browsers, terminals, and other text fields.

Thoughtful text cleanup

Spoken punctuation, lists, conservative filler removal, and explicit corrections—all handled locally.

Your personal dictionary

Teach FnScribe names and exact capitalization. Every entry stays in your local settings.

A calm recovery path

Copy or retry the latest in-memory transcript if automatic insertion ever misses.
